My name is Diya Cham, and I’m the founder of ElderGuards, an initiative to help seniors stay safe online. This project was born from my passion for connecting with others, my commitment to community service, and my belief that everyone deserves to feel confident navigating the digital world.

My journey into cybersecurity awareness began with a personal experience—I fell for a phishing scam. That moment opened my eyes to how easily anyone can be deceived, even when they think they’re being cautious. What truly motivated me to take action, however, was my grandfather. His fear of online scams kept him from using digital banking and other modern conveniences. While his caution was understandable, it made me realize that many seniors, like him, either avoid technology out of fear or unknowingly put themselves at risk due to a lack of cybersecurity awareness.

That's why, for my Girl Scout Gold Award, I created this project to make cybersecurity simple, approachable, and empowering for seniors. Since launching this initiative, My team and I have developed easy-to-follow guides, workshops, and resources designed to help older adults navigate the digital world with confidence.

Our mission is to make cybersecurity education accessible so seniors can feel informed, protected, and in control of their digital lives—because staying safe online shouldn’t be intimidating. Learning something new can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, it’s absolutely possible.
